l have this problem. My two-foot spins are good, but when l lift up my foot to do the one-foot spin, but my foot on which I am supposed to be spinning on digs into the ice and l lose SO much speed.
Please help.
Thanks

You should not be trying to spin on your toe. l know it can be scary to try a new spin but you need to just spin on the ball of your foot and just concentrate on keeping your foot up. This will help your position and speed.

Are u going up onto ur toe in ur one-foot spin? That happens a lot with spins. When u pick ur foot up, make sure u do not lift ur hip up too. Keep ur shoulders square & level & ur hips square & level. Trying to spin too far up on ur toe will cause ur spin to be wild, out of control & u will travel (the spin wo not be centered in one spot).

If the problem is that you're falling over too far onto one of ur edges, it might be a problem with the support in ur ankle. Make sure ur ankles r tied tightly so that u can stay over the top of ur blade, rather than leaning to one side. Keep ur skating knee straight, but do not rock too far up on ur toe.

How do u go into ur spins? Are u doing them from a pivot entrance or crossovers with a back inside edge? If you're doing a pivot, make sure to get a lot of push & use ur arms. Get into ur spin & when u feel stable, then pick up ur foot. If you're doing crossovers, when stepping into ur circle, make a half-heart shape, bring ur free leg through like a swing roll & snap into position.

Good luck! :)

My friend had the same problem when we were learning the one oot spin.well try to stay on the ball of ur foot. If ur wondering it is when ur slighty touching the first spike on ur toe pick.also dont lift ur hip way up because l had that problem sometimes when l was learning. press down on the ball of ur foot when ur spinning & try focusing on not lifting ur foot any higher than ur toe pick. Just keep on practicing & u should eventually get the spin with a lot of speed. hope l helped.

try focussing your balance on the mid or heel section of your foot and not your toes.

Lift your foot up slowly and balance on the ball of your foot. You could also kick your foot back instead of lifting it up, depending on your coach is rules

Make sure u lift the free foot & hold it against the inside ankle of ur spinning foot, knee pointed forward. Close ur legs. The free leg can pull u off balance & cause u to rock up onto the toepicks.

You're supposed to spin on the ''rocker'' of the blade - the curve behind the toepick - not on the toepick. You know that is why ur foot is digging into the ice. Pick up ur toes inside ur skate, so u balance on the ball of ur foot - that is where the rocker is. Make sure u do not let ur arms drop - hold ur hands where u can see them & make a circle with ur arms. Most importantly, stand up straight - try to make yourself as tall as possible while spinning.

Good luck!

your probably going up on your toe a lot but u can fix this by straightening your leg that your spinning on! it is probably cos ur nervous as well but you will get the hang of it and the worst u could do is just fall and no one rely cares especially in figure skating trust me
You Can Do It!!!
