how much does it cost to get ice skates sharpened? can i get it done anywhere besides a rink?

it cost $3 at my rink for one skate. so $6 for the pair.
and yes, but l havent seen any stores that do it near my house, so its easyest to go to the rink.

well when l first got mine sharpened was when l first got them for my 12th birthday 4 months ago! (and my skates r still nice & perfect!!) anyway, my rink is pro-shop sharpened my blades for free the first time, since l was buying my skates from them! but i'm not sure any where else to get them sharpened, cuz l see no way to get them sharpened online, & pro-shopes r the only place ABLE to get them sharpened for you!! so l suggest finding a different rink which has a pro-shop if ur doesn't! good luck!

Stick with a guy at an ice rink. While other people can buy the machine to sharpen metal blades, u need to use a special technique to sharpen figure ice skates by getting the most edge without taking away the rocker & the ''life'' of the blade.

Some coaches know how to sharpen blades. Once l had a coach sharpen mine at his home & he did a wonderful job but stopped doing it later on because the rink he worked for complained he took away their business. ¬¬

Investigate by word of mouth who is the best sharpener in the area & stick with that guy.

I'd say u need to sharpen ur blades about once every 6 months in average, a lot more if u skate almost everyday.

This truly depends on where u live. When l lived in Minneapolis, NO ONE who skated competitively got their skates sharpened from the guy at the rink. We went to a skate shop where the guy was well-known as a good competitive figure skate sharpener. This costs $15.50. Now that l live in California, there is virtually no good place to get my skates sharpened, so l send them out to get them done.

Depending on what level you're at, a good skate sharpening is crucial to skating well. Plus, if an inexperienced guy ruins ur blades, you're out a good $400-500.

Ask a trusted coach at ur rink where they have their students get their skates sharpened & they should be able to help u out.

As how often u should get ur skates sharpened, l skate 2-4 times a week & get mine sharpened every 2 months or so. If u skate less, I'd say 3-4 months should do the trick. If you're skating every day, once a month should be good.

It depends on where u go. For example, here it costs $4 at the rink, but $13 at the pro shop. l do not really recommend getting them sharpened at the rink. Take them to someone who has experience mounting blades & dealing sharpening competitive skater is blades for a more quality sharpening. A bad sharpening can really screw up ur blades & make skating difficult. As skaters (hockey/speed/figure) where they get their blades sharpened. They will probably be able to tell u where is best to go & who to stay away from. Good luck!

There are people who do sharpen skates in their homes or out of the rink. l would talk to others skaters at your rink and ask them if there are other people around who sharpen skates. Usually a skate sharpening costs about $6-$10.
