Depending on the level of the skater, & whether or not they r doing competitions that require long distance traveling can depend on the cost. Figure skates can cost anywhere from $100-$1,500+ (again depending on the level of skater & what skates they require). Dresses & tights cost on average about $100 per dress (a competition dress) along with about $15 per pair of tights, practice dresses cost anywhere from $50-$75. Private lessons cost anywhere from $10-$15 per 15 minute lesson depending on the experience of the coach (they set their own coaching rates). Ice time is usually about $5-$10 per one hour session. If u travel to competitions u also have to add this cost to the total of skating. Most skaters spend on the upwards of at least $3,000+ per year on skating alone, again this cost depends on the level of the skater.

as much or little as u want.

l spend less- public sessions ($4 for 1.5 hours) used skates ($125 on ebay) cut my own music (free) & help coach learn to skate for free lessons for myself. oh yeah & l only do the in town competition (about $70).

other skaters do freestyle sessions ($12 for 1.5 hours) new skates ($600) professionally cut music ($20) pay for lessons ($ 25 for 30 minutes) & travel to competitions (really really expensive).

l hope this helps!

Iceskater already mentioned the price range that is very accurate already. However, it also depends on where u live, who is coaching u (it is totally dofferent to be coached by a superstar than the local guy at the rink that teaches Bunny hops), ur level (the higher the level, the more expensive overal), the quality of ur skates & how often do u compete.

And yes, skaters pay for the coach to travel with them. I've never had this probem myself because I've never competed out of town though. The price can be split if the coach is taking several students to the same competition. Unless u have a relative or buddy that can lend u a room, u have to pay for a hotel room too.

Joining a skating Federation costs some cash & u have to pay them each year (which is usually far less than 15 dollars in the US; in Mexico we only pay our dues to the Figure Skating Club & not to the Federation per se). Tests also cost money. Usually less than 10 dollars, but u will hve to pay the price for each test if you're going to do several in the same day.

Skating costumes r expensive. My mom used to make custom dresses & charged 100 dollars for them which really was a bargain considering how well made they were. Skating shops sell generic looking dresses for far less but tey wo not fit u perfectly & u have the issue that they r usually very simple looking.

Tights cost about 15 dollars, but depending on the fabric they can be useful for over 2 years. l always have a spare pair that l never ever use except for competition or tests.

Skates can be cheap or insanely expensive. My custom skates cost over 1000 US dollars (not counting the blades). The higher quality the skate, the less probable they will break down in a year. I've only ever needed 4 pairs of skates in over 7 years of skating & one of my old pairs is still in near perfect condition ( l had to switch because they were painful to use when doing back sit spins) & another pair was only used like once or twice before l noticed how crappy they were & threw them away. You will have to replace blades a lot depending how often u skate which cost around 150 dollars.

l really do not know how much l spend on skating since l do not have a coach. l just go to public sessions which cost between 5-7 dollars for unlimited time. Freestyle sessions r expensive, but u get freebees if u pay in bulk ahead (like 100 dollars for 10 sessions & 2 r free). Going to a skating school usually enables u to have free public session ice time for a certain amount of hours. The local rink near my house gives u 10 hours for free each month which is not that bad. Schools cost differently depending on the rink & ur level.

l spend far more money on office training though a lot of people will think l am just being a cheapskate. The gym l go to charges 5 dollars per day with unlimited time & my private coach 10 per class twice a week. l am thinking of paying for 6 months for unlimited time while their XMAS discount is still available to save a lot of money. Then u have water bottles expenses. l also take creatinine after a heavy workout. The stuff is kinda expensive (like 20 dollars for a large can of it), but it grows ur muscles real fast which is what l need the most right now. The rest of my offtraining is just to go to the park for free haha.

A lot of skaters can spend over 20,000 dollars a year.

If u r a beginner u need a simple pair of skates. When u fist begin u really need to rent skates 4-10$ & go take class lessons 50-110$ for around 10-17 classes. Once u really get into skating u need to upgrade to beginner skates which cost from 50-90$ depending on quality & product. Then u need to take off ice ballet classes for flexibility which cost about 21-36$ also depending on coach & studio.

Then u become more interested in compeating. for a beginner competition u need a costume. Dresses for beginners cost from 40-140. chose carefully. Dresses with gems & sparkles will always cost much more. Then simple gloves, 3-10$. You need an extra pair of skate laces which r 12-20$. Now the enterance fee. Depending on quality & level of competition it could range from 70-190$ for joining. You also need a coach & private lessons 2-5 times a week. From 20-40$ a lesson.

when u become expert u need expert skates ranging from 500-2000 dollars. They MUST be costum made to fit. Now u need more private coaching & practice sessions. Coach- 40-57 dollars a lesson. Practice- 10-20 dollars from 1-3 hour sessions. Practice up to 5 times a week.

Expert compeating. wow. u need to rake in the cash for this. practice & coaching above. skates above. enterance fee- 100-400$. dresses plain- 140-600$. with diamonds- 700-2000$. skate bags range from 15-200$. choose wisely. make sure it is durable. traveling fee can come from 10-2000$ depending on distance & way of transportation. hotel costs from 50-200$. If u place 1st-5th u move on & all the costs come back again!

Good Luck & Skate Safely!
