I am getting new boots and blades soon, and l was wondering what the big difference is between straight-cut toepicks and cross-cut toepicks? is one better than the other?
at the moment l have Coronation Ace blades with the cross-cut toepicks, and l was thinking of getting the Coronation Comet blades but they have a straight-cut toepick. will it affect my jumps at all? (l am doing doubles)
Thanks!!

l think the best thing to do is to ask ur coach what s/he recommends. They r the one person who knows ur skating the best & what blades & toepicks r best for you.
Compare these: http://johnwilsonskates.com/blades/popups/coron-comet.html http://johnwilsonskates.com/blades/popups/coron-ace.html
The Coronation Comet is a higher-level blade. l personally do not know any skaters who continue using a Coronation Ace when working on doubles. Hope this helps!

l started with Coronation Ace blades, they are for lower level skaters. Pretty much everyone where l skated used Pattern 99 is when they got to a higher level.

As far as I've read, the difference is supposed to be grip for toe jumps. The cross-cut is supposed to grip the ice better and not slide out. l believe I've had both types of picks at one point or another and can not say l noticed any difference!
Check this out -- this is a suggested usage chart for John Wilson blades. Maybe this will help you out in finding the right blade for your level! :)

if your doing doubles, you should know the answer to that question. if you were smart, you'd save yourself the embarrasment and sarcastic comment im leaving you and ask the person who your purchasing your blades from.oh or here is an idea-ask your coach.

l do not think the cross cut v. straight cut toepick will affect ur jumps much.
However, the change in the rocker size could give u problems. Comets have an 8'5'' rocker, & Aces have a 7' rocker. That means that Comets r MUCH flatter blades than Aces. That will be really, really hard to get used to - especially for ur spins.
You can upgrade to a higher level blade with the same rocker size. Higher blades with 7' rockers include: Gold Stars, which also have cross-cut picks; & Phantoms which have straight-cut. Or maybe even something with an 8' rocker (like Gold Seals, Pattern 99s) - 8' rocker will be hard to get used to, but probably not as hard as getting used to the Comet.
Besides, Comet is not really an upgrade from Aces - they're made for the same freestyle levels:) For doubles, u really need an upgraded blade, such as the ones mentioned above.
Riedell has fantastic blade comparison info on their site: http://riedellskates.com/blades/ On the left, u can find links to advanced FS blades & regular FS blades.

You know what? I've been doing doubles for a long time now (can not land them. *sob*) & l do not think there is much difference. Personally l have never used Coronation Comets before, only Coronation Aces & Gold Seals. l do not think u will have a problem with it unless you're getting a different edge blade, like a Parabolic for example. (Just like what skategirl said above.)Those give u a sharper edge, & u need to know how to control it. l think that was more of a challenge for me than the difference between a straight-cut & cross-cut toepick.
