l have an ice skating competition tomorow. And l practiced a lot but l am so nervous that l am litteraly shaking. See l am not nervous becuase of the people watching it is because of the judges and all the presure. And then l go out there and l am freezing and nervous. And then because l am so nervous l fall on my jumps. l have done tons of competitions but l just get really scared. If you are an ice skater or not can you just help me to relax and not make me
so nervous. Help! l am so scared!!!!

l always get nervous before ice skating shows . but l think thats what makes it exicting and it also makes you perform better !!!
. because if you were not exicted/nervous your performance would not be sooo good

well l do not compete but l can absolutely tell how it feels, cuz i've been exact situations like that with the same feeling!! but l do take lessons a lot and my coach idky, but she gives me this vibe that l have to be perfect and can not mess up once! but anyway, you just have to do what you did in your other competitions to saty calm, maybe you can do some massge before the competition, to calm your self and relax yourself better! good luck!

the same thing happens to me, just say to your self, if you do not mess up, it will be a great show, but if you do, it is normal, you would not be human if u did not make mistakes, just calm down and take deep breaths and go through the steps in ur mind while you wait, l should listen to myself, l can not help it, l always get nervous.lol good luck!! : ]

l think this may get to u too late . . . but hope u had a great skate!

Nervousness is perfectly normal. It is actually a GOOD thing because u need that adrenoline rush to give u that extra kick to get u through the program. Think of it as a positive . . . it is about controlling the nerves & finding a way to make them work for you.

Think positive. You've practiced hard & u know u can do this. Let ur muscle memory u through the program & have fun out there. The key is finding a way so u ENJOY yourself out there . . . afterall, u love the sport, right? Show ur audience that!

When they call ur name, take ur time getting to ur starting point. l used to do a set of crossovers & wave to the crowd -ha! Then take one deep breath before u start. Close ur eyes & convince yourself u CAN do this. Then open ur eyes to ''showtime''. Think in the present . . . think about the move u r doing - not what u just did or what u have to do next. And remember to BREATHE & bend those knees!

Even though u may be nervous, do not let ur audience see it. Skate confidently, & look confident! If u fall or make an error, just get up quickly & do not show it in ur face or body language .. . . just keep on going like it was no big deal. Sometimes if u can act or pretend, it will convince ur body to get in control - because u have to!!!!

Remember all the skaters around u r in the same boat - & all of us have been there (the shakey legs, heart beating in ur throat, the out-of-body sensation!).

Good luck with all ur competitions!

This happened at my recent competition & ended up getting first place!!! l freak out a lot also & even worse my parents were not there for 2 (out of 4) of my competitions because they won a trip to new york twice !!but when l get on the ice l realize l am making to much of a deal about it & if l mess up or not l will move on with my life. also l pretend its just me & my coach practicing at a regular public or freestyle session. l forget all about the audience & judges & imagine there r people skating all around me & my nerves surprisingly go away!! just remember that it is just one competition & do ur best & if u fall get right back up & do not let it stop u from doing ur best. there will be other competitions & l am pretty sure u will do GREAT in all of them.

hey l know u competition is over already. how did u do? but anyway. ive been competing since l was 7 & im 14 now. l just recently started to compete A LOT. & l get really nervous. sometimes to the point where l almost get sick. this is going to sound weird how l coupe, but it works for me. l take tic tacs & l put them in a medicine bottle. so l take them to calm my nerves. it makes me think im taking something, but im not. sounds weird, but l works. at least for me it does. u should try it :D my trainer suggested it. so l guess a bunch of skaters do it too.

Just go out there & have fun! If skating was not fun, u would not be doing it, right? And if u did not love skating, u would not be doing it either. Turn ur nervousness into excitement -- u r excited to go out there & show everyone how much u LOVE skating. Get excited to show everyone what cool music u picked out, what a fun program u have & the cool dress u have. Showcase the ur hard work! Who cares about the judges -- they're technically spectators too! When you're skating, make sure to breathe through ur nose, not ur mouth -- but be sure to breathe!! l do not when l compete! :) Concentrate on how good u will feel as u step off the ice after skating a great program. Smile & show everyone you're having fun -- get into ur music. Sometimes the difference between 1st & 2nd is who presented their program better & felt their music. Have fun -- I've probably missed u before ur competition, but l hope u did well. :)

Just close your eyes and relax... take a deep breath. Dont worry about it, it dosent matter if u win or lose. And be sure to keep warm with a jacket until right before you go on the ice and drink plenty of water.

When l skate for competitions, l get so nervous that l could throw up. But l just learned that if you listen to your ipod and rock out to your favorite songs , it makes everything better.

Just rememeber that you have a blast doing it :]
