Yep, the camel spin can be hard to learn initially . . . there r so many things to think about when you're doing it. It is a balancing & timing thing, more than the other spins. It is almost as if everything is not in place at the right time, u will be thrown out of the camel spin.
If you're falling forward, ur skating foot may be a bit far back . . . it is not right under u . . . u r probably going up on ur toe. You gotta find that sweet spot on ur blade to ''spin''.
Do not lean forward. Keep that head (chin up) - do not enter the spin with ur head down looking at the ice. Do not kick that freeleg up in the entrance (the camel is not about trying to do a high spiral) as that may throw u forward as well.
Make sure that back is arched - VERY important - & that ur shoulders r not going towards ur ears.
For me, building up stomach muscles helped a lot. l did low spirals on the floor on a bent knee - & came up on it slowly to build up the leg muscle. l think l also tried doing a camel spin on a bent knee (without rising up) until l found that sweet spot - & eventually l got the whole timing thing worked out once l ''got'' how to spin.
Hope that helps!!

You might concider getting a new coach if the one u have now is ''mean''. l spent a great deal of time & money with my coaches. If their attitude effected my ability to learn than they would be gone. There r many more coaches out there. Dont feel obligated to stick with one! As for ur camel. It sounds to me like u have a problem withat that toe pick of yours. You need to find that ''Spot'' You will fall many times untill u do. Arch ur back, center u weight on the ball of ur foor. Hope that helps for you. In the mean time concider talking to ur coach or hireing a new one. l went though several different coaches untill l found the right one.

l am working on my camel too. It is hard, but l hav not fallen on my face yet. How do you set up for it? l do three backward crossovers, then l skate on a left outside edge (that is the one where you lift up your right foot right?) and then l just go into it! l hav not been working on it very long though. Good luck! ♥

oh, thats sad! i'm not being sarcastic, l really mean thats sad! what kind of coach would not care!?!? well actually my old coach never really cared either, he did not even do the tricks right himself! but now my new coach at my new, bigger, better, newer, popular rink, is like way nicer, shes soooooo helpful, she actually does one on one communication with u on the ice! she is like the best coach i've ever had!!! anyway, sry but i'm like still way in alpha level, so l do not know anything about camels yet, but l DO know how they look! so maybe u can try tilting ur body ever so slightly to the back so u can be level with the ice, do not try to be so parallel cuz it seems that paralleliness is making u fall on ur face! so try that & be more level with the ice than parallel! & if that does not work, heres some links!

Camels r hard!!! l hate them...flying camels r a different story, but the camel & l have been enemies for a long time!
One thing that helped me get steady on camels was (assuming you're a righty) when u do ur back inside edge, bring ur left arm across ur body & touch ur right shoulder with ur left hand (with ur elbow up). It kind of looks like you're saluting from ur shoulder. When u step into ur spin, reach ur left arm out & let it ''pull'' u into the spin. Your head/eyes should follow ur left hand. It sounds weird, but it gets u a better step & position getting into a camel.
When stepping in, sink way down on ur skating knee & then rise up on ur knee quickly, but make sure u do not rise too far up on ur toe.
Also keep ur free leg level with ur upper body with a straight knee.
l hope some of this helps! :)
