Out here, for a 15-20-30 min private lesson, it can range from $20 to almost $50 (high level coach) per lesson (plus the cost of the ice session). l would venture to say it is on the high side where l live though.
Yep, skating is an expensive sport (and not just for the lesson costs). But there r always ways to keep the costs down.
Group lessons r the least expensive way to learn to skate! l would complete whatever group program u r in - all the way to the highest level. l stayed at the highest level for several sessions along with others who did the same . . . our class leveled higher than it was supposed to be - a neat advanced group class! It is also a good place to get acquainted with some of the coaches - one who u may spot as a potential coach for you.
If u like a specific coach, go ahead & talk to them about private lessons/costs - they will give u the scoop l am sure! Maybe see if they would be willing to do a split lesson (you & another skater) as well. A few of my friends did that to keep private lesson costs down.
Some skaters do ok with one lesson a week. At one point l did one every other week. l have a friend who took lessons only once a month!! It is not just the number of lessons, but how much time u have to devote to practicing in between. A skater can be granted funds or a scholarship, or receive private/corporate sponsorship for their training & competition expenses. Mainly it is for skaters who've been skating a while & show great potential . . . but l actually know someone who ''sponsors'' a 5 year old (well, she does show potential!).
Hope that helps!

Each coach sets his/her own rates, although some rinks also impose restrictions to keep everyone in that rink within a range. In our area, a junior coach (High School or College age) charge $20-$26; experienced staff charge $30-40; & the senior coaches charge $45 or more. (All half-hour rates.) In most rinks, the coaches r independent contractors, which means they're running their own businesses. Unless u can barter some service to the coaches, they can not afford to waive their charges.
Private lessons r more expensive than group lessons because u alone r paying the coach for her time, plus u have to pay the rink for admission to the rink. When u take group lessons, the students share the coaches' cost.
If u have a friend that is at the same skating level, the two of u can hire the coach for a semi-private lesson & split the lesson cost. You both have to pay the rink is admission fee. (Some coaches charge an extra $5 for semi-privates.)
The longer the lesson, the more it will cost, so look into shorter (15 or 20 min) lessons.
If you're already in group lessons, try to use the practice time provided or the discount admission card to reduce/eliminate the rink is admission charge. Some rinks let their employees skate for free/reduced cost, so (if you're old enough) getting a job at the skate rental place could pay off. (Plus it will give u some income to pay the coach, right? ;-} )
Some clubs offer scholarships to pay the ice fees & a few pay for some of the lesson fees. Check out ur club is website.

Each coach sets their own rates, & depending on the experience of the coach usually depends on their rates. Usually they r about $10-15 for a 15 minute lesson & can go up depending on how much experience the coach has. You also have the cost of the freestyle session which at my rink is $5 per session (which is one hour total on the ice). There r people who will sponsor you, but usually they want more advanced skaters who show potential in doing well in the sport so u could try that, but besides that there is not much else. You could do a lesson with another skater so u could split the cost of the lesson between you. Group lessons r usually the best way to save money & learn how to skate. Good luck!

there r not scholarships for ice skating, unless u get REALLY good, & that takes a lot of work & dedication (which it looks like u have) it takes passion to do something, not expensive private lessons. My daddy has always wanted me to be a professional ice skater, but l just do not feel like it is something that l want to do, u can imagine how l broke is heart by switching to hockey. l had private lessons for many years, the charge was a dollar a minute l took lessons for 30 min. two times a week.
If u really really really want to become a figure skater, then work hard in group lessons, & go practice often. Dedication is all it takes :)
Good luck!!! :)

The rate for private lessons is set by individual coaches. It can range from $20 & hour to $120 an hour & up. It all depends on what region u live in & the coach is experience & ratings.
If the cost of living is generally higher in whatever area u live in, expect the cost of lessons to reflect that. Also, at some rinks coaches must pay for their ice time or give the rink a percentage of their earnings & may charge enough to cover their costs as well as to make a small profit.
Plus, experience differs with every coach. Some coaches have a great deal of international competitive experience or pass a Professional Skaters' Association rating exam every year demonstrating their advanced skills in certain aspects of coaching, & some coaches have simply skated recreationally for years & give some beginning lessons. You may even luck into a coach from the former Soviet Union who has a degree in coaching skating, sport science & cheorgraphy! Of course, they may be more expensive.
Those r basic guidelines on how the rates will vary. The best way to find out what the cost of private lessons would be for u is to ask the coaches available at ur rink. While u r inquiring, ask when payment is expected. Does the coach expect payment before or after the lesson? Does the coach bill at the end of every month? Ask if u will be charged for not showing up for a scheduled lesson or if u r late. (keep in mind the different experience levels too . While u r asking about price go ahead & ask about where the coach received his or her training, what ratings he or she may have, how long they have been coaching, what area of skating they specialize in, etc.)
Sometimes coaches will give a private ''group'' lesson too. If u have a fellow skater in ur current group lesson who is working on the same elements & is interested in private lessons too. Ask if the coach will give a few lessons to u together at a reduced rate for both for few sessions. This would give u more attention from a coach & u can see if u want to continue lessons individually.
You do not have to just have private lessons either. You can reduce ur own costs by having one private lesson every few weeks & supplement that with group lessons or more time on the ice to practice.
Good luck & l hope u keep enjoying skating!

well, where l skate, my coach charges like 35 for a sesion, but l still have to pay for ice time. That means that l have to pay $ to just be on the ice, then additional money to have someone coach me. You do get a lot better with a coach, although it does get more expensive. l think you should do it, just try 1 lesson per week, that way you still get private coach time, and you can always practice at free skate at the areana. good luck! hope this helps!

sorry babe, l think u can only get scholarships if u are REALLY good and are going into college. l know skating lessons are really expensive- especially with the cost of ice time and skates. ask around - different coaches have a different price. for ex. we my coaches $30 for a 30 min lesson; $15 for 15 minutes lesson..etc. l really hope you are able to skate =] have fun!

Well the cost depends on the coach & private lessons (in my view) usually cost 20-30 dollars. l do not believe they have scholarships, unfortunately. l would stay in group lessons for a while. Maybe until u land ur lutz ( l do not know if u already have). If u do ur lessons on public ice (that will cut down the price since ice time on freestyle is usually $12 per 1/2 hour). How old r you, can u get a job. Maybe when u r old enough to get a job u could get one at the rink & work out some kind of deal for ice time so that could get cut out of the price of skating.
Good Luck & Go for the Gold!

Private lessons are usually expensive. It depends on each coach. If the coach in question has alot of skaters and stuff, they are going to be more expensive than a coach with not too many skaters. l think that the price is lower if you are just beginning, but on average, its about a dollar a minute. l dont think there are any scholarships for someone who is just starting and wants a private coach.. you can always ask your rink.

Well, if u want private lessons, that all depends on what coach it is, if it is a teenage they probably arent that good at teaching but will be very cheap, if it is a professional coach who has been working a long time, it would obviously cost more, but if u would rather have the better coach & cant afford it, just try to cut down on the skating & do as much as u can when u r in a lesson & also do a lot of off ice which will help u improove on ice so u dont have to take too much time doing it with ur coach. & if u r going into college, u may get a scholarship but only if u r super super super good & u think u can get first place at least 4 times in a row.then u probably will get a scholaship. but dont count on it.
hope this helps <3
