l really......really love ice skating. Every time l go to the ice skating rink and look at others skate, l feel more and more encouraged to do it. l have never ice skated before but l am so desperate to do it. Help please. l need to know what l need before l actually start ice skating. Any advise? Second problem is that the one and only skating rink there is is wayyy far from my home. What should l do? How am l going to practise in like ONE day??? Please also tell me what items and basic skills l may need.

balace and some confidence, ice skating is pretty easy one you get the idea, just go along (take a friend who can skate as they can hold your hand while you learn) and try it, you will fall over adn it can hurt but make sure you are wrapped up warm and you will be fine

You love it but you've never done it? Then do not u think its about time!?
We used to go on school trips ice skating for only a few short hours, & by the end of it everyone was rushing about like pros. Well, maybe not pros, but we were doing pretty good.
Just get there, hire some skates (make sure they fit tight cos loose ones give u nasty blisters). Within a short while of edging around the outside, holding the wall, u will start to get ur balance, & once u can stay upright its much the same as roller skating.
Be careful if u do fall, keep ur hands out of the way of other skaters, cos those skates can do some harm!

you will need skates that fit you, a nice warm thick jumper for when you hit the ice (yes, it will happen) and maby some gloves just in case.

If you can roller blade then you can probably ice skate without too much trouble - its good fun and very good for muscle tone! Go and try, you can hire the skates there and l would make sure you're wearing jeans and a long sleeve top in case you fall over - once you've got the hang of it you will love it and it does not take long to learn.

Do u know anyone who goes to that rink regularly? If so, maybe u can tag along or work out a carpool with ur families. l recommend planning to take a lesson & have a short practice on one day & practice for an hour or two on a second day. It really helps u get the most out of ur lessons.
Pick out warm, comfy clothing. l would wear stretchy pants, not jeans - they're awful to wear when they get wet & they make it harder to move easily. You will need gloves & a helmet to protect yourself. Wear thin socks (one pair only) & pick out skates that r the right size. Tie them tightly so u feet & ankles do not flop around.
For the first few times, just trotting around the ice rink with one hand on the wall will get u started. While you're there, pick up a group lesson brochure to discuss with ur parents later.
Good luck.

well first of all, youve already got the most important aspect to the sport of figure skating: the love for it. to do well in skating, the most important part is the passion & devotion. thats what got me to where l am today. so congrats on that to start with =) one thing u need to know before u even step on that ice is to be ready to be discouraged, & be ready to look past that & keep going. there were so many time that l have felt like quitting, but once u set ur mind back into a postive state, u just gotta keep going! youre going to have to fall, & its probably gonna hurt, & youre going to have to get back up & try it again. to start with, u r going to need some skates, but u can get pretty cheap ones to begin with. & if u decide to stick with it after a few months, u can talk to a skate shop or coach about new skates. l got my first skates for only about $20. they helps me learn just the basic balnce & edges to skating. u might also want some knee pads, l found those extremely helpful in my case, but thats a personal decision. as far as the rink being far away from you, the only advice l can give is to try ot get there as much as u can, & even if u can get there too much.. when u do, skate for as long as u can! get in as much skating as possible while u r there. l hope everything works out for you, & good luck on the ice! any more questions, & im here to help!

Go ahead & start skating. Once a week or so it good enough to get practice enough to start skating. If u know somebody who often times drives into the area of where the ice rink is see if u can catch a ride with them. l would see if maybe u could enroll in some group lessons. You should make sure that u wear a pair of pants (athletic type pants, not jeans), a t-shirt & a jacket, & wear a pair of fairly thing nylon or polyester socks. You may want to get ur own skates if u plan on sticking with it for a while, but if u do not plan on doing it for a while then rental skates would suit well.you also may want to skate a few times before u decide on whether or not u can stick with it. Good luck!

well it all depends! l love ice skating too, l am one, & my mom wen she signed me up she saw that the closest rink to us since we live in elk grove, & the closest A.K.A farther one is the del paso ice rink, & all ice rinks r far from people almost everyone knows that! & it depends where u live like there is one in del paso which is close to arden, & there is one in roseville which my best friend goes to, there is alot of them but they r really far from people. & maybe u should go early in the morning! & if u want to take private lessons like l do to learn each & every thing about skating then do it! good luck!

The only items you really need are: a pair of skates, and a desire to do it. Skating is not difficult, however be sure to have the skates sharpened before you venture onto the ice surface.
Have fun.

l know, l know . . . there is just something about ice skating that draws u in . . . we all know the feeling!!!
Dress in layers to keep warm - so u can take off a layer when u get too warm. Wear flexible clothing - something that u can move around in that wo not rip or choke u from being too tight. Get ice skates that fit ur heels all the way to back - but gives u wiggling toe room at front. Lace up not too tight, not too loose . . . & tuck in the laces so they wo not become a tripping hazard!
Some sites that may help get u started: Ice skating for beginners http://skatelog.com/ice/beginners.htm Recommended warm up exercises for beginners http://mtmt.essortment.com/iceskatingfigu_peq.htm
If going to a ice rink on a regular basis is not an option, perhaps look into inline skating. Better to skate than not skate at all!! See if there r any inline rinks locally .. . if it is close enough, check it out & at least see what they have to offer!
There is an inline skate made to be like ice skates . . . The Pic Skate http://picskate.com/ It is basically ice skating boots with an inline wheel system that sort of simulates a blade. Here is a video - looks a lot like ice skating. http://figureskating.about.com/od/figureskatingshowvideos/youtube/nathalie.htm l tried them once, & they do feel a bit different from ice skating . . . however l have often thought l may get these if ever l did not have access to ice anymore . . . better alternative than regular inlines (for me anyway!).
But, l do hope u can make it out the ice rink whenever possible! Maybe u can get friends/family members together for a skate trip . . . especially in the summer, the rink will keep everyone cool!!
Best of luck!!

to begin wid ice-skating u will need to wear probably tracksuit n a very warm jumper as u may trip n fall on the ice, n a pair of ice skates that fit u properly, even if u borrow from the ice rink. some ice rink advise u to wear gloves so take some along. to start off on the ice just hold on the egdeof the rink wiv one hand so u have something to get used to the ice as it mayb ur first time n then on u will get the hang off it.
