My coach will be out of town and said that once my axel is good l can try the double salchow. how good is good?

''Good'' depends on ur coach. Some coaches will not let a student move on to a double sal until they r landing the axel pretty consistenty. Some coaches will go forth with teaching a double sal if a student is close to landing the axel.

Me personally, l got my double sal before axel. l was one of those who got stuck on axel . . . so my coach had me try doing double sals. A double sal felt easier in that u have ''help'' with the rotation momentum on the entrance. It actually helped me with axel because then l understood what l was supposed to feel in the air with a back spin position. But that is just me.

Be frank & ask ur coach what exactly they meant by ''good'' (then u will have a real idea) - l am sure he/she will tell you! Best of luck!!

It depends on ur coach, certain coaches move on even if one jump is not quite consistent or still needs some more work. l would suggest waiting until ur coach comes back until u try to start ur double salchow that way u know that u r doing it right, & hopefully will reduce the risk of injury, & teaching it slightly wrong to yourself (which probably would not happen, but it is always good to know that u r doing something right, for sure with a knowledgeable coach).

Your coach wont be out of town that long so be patient and keep working to make your axel better and better. After all it can not be too good, now can it.

Well everyone is different. Some people even land their double salchow before their axel. An axel is good enough when u try it most of the time u land it nicely. Like u smoothly come out of the jump or u do not step out or do things that r not meant to be done. Your axel should be good height but it does not have to be. You just need to be able to land ur axel consistently. Once u can try practicing the double salchow. Tip: Do not directly try the double salchow. l first try it with a 1 1/2. If that is really easy like u do not need that much work to do it. Then the next time try a double salchow with all ur force & it will come! Good luck!

Just clarify it with you coach.

l would not start to work on the double sal while your coach is away. l would not want you to get into a bad habit early on. That can happen when you begin something without some guidance.
