it depends where you live and what kind of lessons you take. group skating classes are cheaper and usually a good idea for beginning skaters. private lessons are more expensive, but they're better for more advanced skaters.
if you're just starting to skate, try rental skates before you buy your own. most rinks have pretty good rentals and they are much cheaper than buying a pair of good-quality beginner skates.
hope this helps and good luck with skating!

The cheapest way to go would be to take group lessons.

Go to ur local rink . . . usually they will have flyers about what classes they offer . . . or u can go to the skating office & they can tell u about it. Google the rink to see if they have a website!

The cost will vary at different rinks. No matter how the classes r set up (by weeks, sessions, per class) typically it ends up being around $15+ per class (meaning each time u go to class). Some will include the cost of renting skates, others will charge a couple bucks more.

When you've taken all the group classes & want to advance, perhaps then u may decide to get a private coach.

Yes, with ice skating, the costs can add up . . . but for starters - group lessons will be the way to go!

Hope that helps!!

Private lessons are usually about $10-15 per 15 minutes, but for a beginner group lessons are a great setting to begin learning skating, and making friends. Group lessons usually run about $30-40 for twice a week for three weeks, and you can also use rental skates so you do not have to buy skates until you know if you're committed to sticking with skating.

actually, if u just want to take group beginners lessons, its not that bad. when l began, it cost me about $105 for 2 months of skating once a week, including admission to the rink during public sessions. but once u begin to get better, thats when it starts to cost more, because u have to take private lessons, & get a coach & stuff. but as far as beginners, its not too bad. im sure youll really love it, but remeber, dont get frustrated! skating is such an amazing sport, if u really commit & enjoy it! have fun, & good luck! =)

depending on what u consider ''expensive' if u take groupe lesons their alot cheaper. at my rink group lessons are about $76 and $2.50 for skate rentals (u hafta pay for each week ) and it also includes a free public skate after ur lesson. private lessons are more expensive. about $30 for 1 lesson for 30min and then u hafta pay for ur own skate rentals and pay the rink for ur ice time ( admission ). so yes lessons are a little costly.

It can get as expensive as you want it to get. If you just stick with group lessons, it is really not that expensive at all. However, if you keep it up, you will want to get skates, maybe private lessons, etc. The more you want to get into, the more expensive it will be. Ultimately, figure skating is said to be the most expensive sport.
