What skating ''games'' do you play on the ice with your friends?

We used do a follow the leader type one.For instance, one person would do a waltz jump and the next person does the same but adds another move, like another waltz jump - and so on.Pretty soon there'd be a whole list of stuff you have to do when it is your turn again - and whoever forgets or poops out is out.

Who says skating has to be all work and no play!Well, even with a game like this, you're still working on memory and stamina (not to mention skating under pressure!!!).

Happy summer skating to everyone!!

yeah, l play a game like that with my friend, except one person is the leader and does something, and the other prson has to do it too, and the leader has 1 minute to do stuff. It is like traditional follow the leader. And also, (since we take private lesson together) we just make up routines for fun (for like the benefits of your game)

PS Thanks for all of your great to all of my skating questions!!!!!

My friends and l at the rink also play a game similar to the one you described above, we also try to see who can spin the longest (all different types of spins), see who could change into as many different spin positions without stopping, and we'd also also make up different programs to different skater is music (it always turned out very funny). Great Question!

My daughter (the skater) says, ''We play hide & seek on the busy public sessions.'' The skater kids r so good & the public people r usually so lame that the skaters will hide from the other skaters amongst the groups of public peoples. First time she did this l thought she was hiding from me! How dare she!! LOL But they really have fun with this one. Does nothing for skating skills but there is more to life than skating. really!

Another one they play on public sessions is something she calls ''snake tag.'' They figure out whose playing & then dart through the public crowds playing tag. That one does not do anything for the skill either but it is good for learning to make it through when they r on crowded freestyle sessions.

One thing to know about our ice rink is that we r physically connected to a major shopping mall. We have these giant windows at the mall end of the ice rink so that people can see into the ice. This mall is also one of the places that the navy recruits r brought when they get their passes from boot camp. And then they have this thing where if the outside temperature is over a certain point public ice is free. You still have to pay to rent skates (unless u have ur own!) but that cuts the cost down considerably for all these people in the mall. At time they can get 300 to 400 people on the ice at any given time! Our public sessions tend to go about three hours & they clear & zamboni the ice every hour. And, truly, it is a great way scrap out the axel holes that formed that morning!

Hi there! We used to play that game too. We would also do it with spins.each skater would take a turn adding positions & combinations. Also we would do each others programs along with them, sort of like follow the leader. With some jumps, like waltz jumps for example, each skater would do their jump (usually only singles) & after they landed it, we would measure ''blade lengths'' to see how long/far their jump was. l have also seen in power skating classes, the girls will do front or back scratch spins, let out, pull in, etc. & whomever spins the longest wins. They also do ladder drills across the ice..they're pretty pooped by the end! Their instructor times them & they have to get in one ladder under a minute (starting at one end of the rink, skating to the first blue line, back to the end, then out to the red line/center line, back to the end, & so on..). Usually with little kids who r working on their stops, l will play ''red light, green light'' with them. If we're working on dips & getting all the way down with younger skaters, we play ''limbo'' & l will hold up a hockey stick or something that they have to dip under. That usually goes over pretty well. :)

We play sharks & minnows in a restricted area on the rink (usually the middle ''figure-skating circle), or do follow the leader like u said.

We often do this spinning ''thing'' where u hold hands with ur partner & pump ten times while spinning, let go of one hand so left & right hands r connected, & spin while doing spread eagles. It is really fun.

After the ice is cut by the Zamboni, we often do a lunge & then let the foot slide up. Then we let it go into the air & we hold on to our legs while spinning on or butts! They r typically called ''butt-spins'' at our rink.

Even though it is against the rules, we play tag (it is really hard during public sessions! You try not to run into little kids waddling around while skating like a maniac!!!) & do congo lines when the music on the stereo gets good.

l love ice skating, even if it means u gotta practice. But hey, practicing is crucial, as everyone knows. As the adage goes: ''Practice makes Perfect!''

Hope this helps!!!!!

Always,

- stuck in the ice, which is basically stuck in the mud on ice= there is one tagger & if they tag u then u have to stand still with ur arms out. to get free someone has to do a dip/ pee wee under ur arm, & then u can keep skating :)
- tag
- ice soccer (find a lump of ice or a puck & kick it around with ur skates)
- pee wee/ dip races
- spinning games with friends (hold one persons hands & spin around as fast as u can with them in a circle)
- randomly hydro-blading until we all fall over! :) very funny
- drawing stuff with our skates
- racing
- copy cat games

there r heaps of things! too many to list :)

Happy Skating!!
