once you try ice skating you will learn to appreciate how hard it is.
i dislike ice hockey and figure skating, but after l tried skating, l have a newfound respect for anything with skates on ice.

Figure skating can teach u discipline, focus & determination-skills that can be transferred/added to ur personal life.
It can also give u self-confidence, self-esteem & a sense of pride & accomplishment-especially for a skater doing his/her program in a competition for his/her first time. If he/she places & wins a medal-great; if not, he/she is still a winner, regardless of placement, because of all of the above.
I've had students morph from being shy, timid & afraid, into becoming more self-confident & determined to focus on executing an element that they've struggled with. When they pass & get their badges for that level, they're estatic.

No! You can do it for fun or competition or both.
Plus it is another form of exercise and helps learn and keep balance.
There was a movie several years ago about a hockey player and a figure skater who got teamed up for a skating competition and had the usual opinion of each others sport until they had a chance to try them.

yeah, doing a 4:30 second program that covers about a mile with triple jumps and back breaking spins and positions is so stupid. if only all those girls played video games, then they would be TOUGH.

a lot of people think figure skating is very easy & u get it right away, like a snap
but really, there r sooo much tough times with a figure skater is life, like breaking bones & having injuries all the time
a person needs to be very patient, which is something u do not have
figure skating is a very physically & mentally challenged sport, there r many major breakdowns when something does go wrong
hockey players think this real sport is dumb & stupid, but THEY r actually the ones that r dumb & stupid

is football stupid? is baseball stupid? no figure skating is not stupid to people who like it, just like men like football and other junk. l think ice skating takes more effort than any other sport. maybe except gymnastics. it takes alot of practice to learn jumps and spins. people think it is all a joke but you try landing a a quad. it is not as easy as it looks.
