Ok my skates right now are a size 5. but my shoe is like 6. l need help on these new skates. They say to go down 1.5 shoe size. My probelm is my skates right now have no padding in them. but the new ones do. Shoud l get a 5 or a 5.5 or 6. DOES padding in skates affect the size to get..l am so confused.. WEll l need to know bc l found different types of skates that l might get but l am thinking that these would be more for me. l just need the size help.
If this is confusing then sorry.i can not reallymake it sound good.

Hun, l skated from the time l was 11 until l was 18, & l wish that l would have started taking lessons at a much younger age. My beginning teacher taught me in rental skates. Then after l moved past Basic 1, Basic 2, & then went into Intermediate, l bought custom made ice skates in San Francisco, CA because my middle toe was longer than my big toe (hereditary thing). My basic figure skating teacher happened to be a man & he also ran the pro shop. He measured my foot & l only went down one half size because my foot was still growing. And at first when my boots were too big, l used to pack the toes with lambswool, which took up just about the right amount of space until l fully grew into the boots.
Once l got to Freestyle 2, l went through two pair of skates a year but my foot had stopped growing, so l had a mold made in San Francisco & when l reordered my skates, they were made from the mold that was made of my foot.
My parents took me to CA & my Dad paid for these skates for me, but l think they ran somewhere in the vacinity of $250.00, but that is because they were custom made to fit my feet. l was moving up into competative ice-skating, figure 8's, by the time l finished Intermediate 1. l even started working a little bit in ice-dancing with a teen that was in the same class as me & my Basic 1 teacher was working with me in partners skating. At that time, we did not have a young man my age to skate with a partner until another 6 months had passed.
When l graduated from high school, l had to stop figure-skating classes even though l made it to Freestyle 4 & the only thing holding me back was my Axel. It was time for me to go to college & my parents were going through a bad divorce, so that is why l gave up figure-skating, although l still skated whenever l could sneak in a little bit of time in between college & studying.
l know l got off track here, but I've heard that Reidell is r okay for beginners, & Jackson is r fine for Intermediate level, but as u progress u r probably going to need a lot stronger boot to support u when u get into Freestyle 1 & 2. In Freestyle 2, u should be pretty well through or finishing up all of ur single jumps. In Freestyle 4, l was working on my single Axel & all of my double jumps, so that is when u r really going to go through probably two pairs of skates per year, if u skate & practice a lot like l did.
Personally, it would be best if a Pro fitted u in a similar pair of skates before u order these skates. But if u r going to buy them off of the Internet, all l can say is try the boots on when u r on a carpeted floor so u do not scratch the bottoms or sides up, just in case they do not feel right, too tight, not enough room in the toe, & u need to return them for a different size, etc. You should have at least 1/2 to 3/4 inch room left in the toe area to allow ur feet to grow some more. You did not give ur age, but if u wear a size 6 shoe, l am willing to bet that u r a teenager. That is about what size l wore in high school until my Junior year, & then l grew into a size 7. So l always had my skates at least one/half size smaller than my shoe size (6.5), which allowed some extra space, but not too much. If u have more than one inch left at the end of the toe, then u r probably going to wobble a lot because the skates r going to be too big. Try one/half size smaller since the Jackson is run a little large. As long as u do not mess up the bottom or scratch the boots, & if they do not fit, u can always return them, but not once the blades have been mounted.

Here is some extra tips that u might find useful:
If u can find lambswool, u can pad the toes or use it to take up a little extra growing space. l found mine at local pharmacies & l think l remember actually seeing some lambswool in a Wal-Greens store. But l am not going to swear that it was Wal-Greens because it has been about three months or longer since l saw the lambswool. It can be hard to find, but if u need a little extra padding in the toe area, either to take up a little bit of space or to pad ur toe area a little more, lambswool is great, if u can still find it. l will look around a little more & see if l can not locate a place that sells lambswool, in case u need it. Padding in the boots does affect the way the skates fit, but since Jackson is tend to run large, l think u will be okay for about a year in size 5.5's.

l found 2 sites for lambswool located on the Internet. l used to pull off a chunk of lambswool padding & put in the bottom of my toe shoes (for ballet) & l also put a chunk of lambswool padding down into the toe of my ice skates -- l never had to wrap my toes with lambswool, which is what one site illustrates. l am sure there r more places that u can find this product & it is invaluable when helping to pad ur toes or prevent blisters on ur toes. When l started wearing the custom made ice skates, l also used moleskin which is a stickybacked type of fabric that protected my heel areas from getting blisters & to help pad my heels against a piece of steel that was put into the ice skates as they were being made. These steel plates (no, u never see them because they r covered by the leather of the boot) can cause friction around the heel area & cause u to have major problems with ur heels. Ice skating has been known to cause bad bone spurs & calcium buildup on heels that r not well protected when u r strenuously ice skating or skating competatively, as this will require a lot of practice. These bone spurs & calcium deposits can hurt terribly, if u ignore them.
Anyway, these r two tips l have for u that u might want to give some thought to, if ur skates r too big or they begin to cause irritation on ur feet. Ballet dancers also tend to use these materials because they help protect ur feet from a lot of abuse. Just something for u to ponder over if u need to questions about ur skates causing u some foot pain. And u may be able to find these products locally & not have to order them from the Internet if u should need them. At least u will know what to ask for, should any problems arise.

l hope all this information has been of some help to you. If u need more information, try posting another message in this area, & l will see what l can do to help u with any further questions, should u have any. Best of luck to you, sweetie. :-)

Each brand and type of skates run differently in their sizing. You need to go to a pro shop and get sized for your skates because the size and width you need may vary depending on what skates you are coming from.
