l just turned14 and will probably be starting ice skating soon. l have never taken ice skating before but have taken dance sence l was 3, cheerleading for 2 years and am pretty flexible.How long do you think it will take me to become ok at skating and maybe compete?also any good tips and stuff that will help would be great.if l keep at it do you think l will be able to compete? if so after how long>

l did dance for a long time, gymnastics for 2 years, and caught on pretty quickly. It will probably go great if you can balance and go paralell (sometimes that is hard for dancers) If not, you will catch on!

you can compete in local competitions and unless you can really good really fast it could be too late for Olympics and stuff but there is an adult league for adult skaters only that l am thinking about joining in the future and would be great for you if you could not get into the young professional stuff

To be honest, hun, u have to start really young to get into major competing. l was 6 when l started, l had to get up every morning at 4;00 am for patch(which is figure8's.they do not do those anymore.) end at 7;00am , get ready for school & then after school, back to the rink for free skate. It continued like that until l was 14. Of course u can become a very graceful skater, but at ur age competing is not going to go far. Just have fun skating! u do not have to be a pro to be good! good luck!

l was a cheerleader for awhile and it did seem to help my skating, as well as skating helping cheer. The dance will also help. If you're just starting lessons, I'd say you could probably compete in a year or less. There are now competitions offered for basic skills skaters. Based on your test level in lessons, you can enter competitions. It should not take too long for you to gain confidence on the ice. All you need to do is practice. Good luck!

It probably wo not take to long before you get ok with it. Once you learn the main fundamentals you should be good!

Do not be discourage about people saying your too old! Jennifer Robinson started skating when she was 12 and she is one of the better skaters in North America!

You should be able to compete! Give it about a year to learn as much as you can and then go from there!

im competing in april, l strted at the age of 13 but it was only like 3 months b4 l turned 14. l took dance for 5 yrs n cheerleading for 1 yr but our diff is l used to rollarblade everyweek. the flexibility helped me so l shud also help u. took me about 9 - 10 months to land my flip, im still on my lutz and axel.so..im also learning my camel and layback spin so...neways just remember to bend ur knees and most importantly have fun!
