Ok - to everyone who answered my last skating question, l made a mistake and did not pick a best answer in time, so now it is in voting.Sorry about that!
ANYWAY . . .
In one competition, l totally screwed up my camel spin which was supposed to be the beginning of a long combo spin. There is no way l could have saved it . . . and redoing the spin would have made me late in the music and make the mistake look even more obvious. So l quickly did a series of silly 3 turns with armwork.????????! My coach laughed her head off saying she'd never seen THAT segment in my program before!!!
Anyone else do some ad-libbing? [; lala - Was holding that sit spin like holding on for dear life???That is a lonnnng sit spin but hey, maybe it made for a cool ending to your program!!!Yah, l got mad at myself too!!!! K K - Ha!That is great you pulled that off!l can only imagine how you felt while skating that last half of the program!!!!! pinksk8ergal - hee hee!!l wish l did laugh . . . l think l got red in the face and mentally screamed some ''choice'' words - HA!You're right - you just gotta keep going!! Nick Jonas is all mine - HA!That is a cute story!Rock and roll with a soft edge - wink!! figure sk8er & swimmer - Good thinking to fix it the way you did and finish it in time!!When l oofed on the spin combo, l did the 3 turn series and came back to the spin spot in time to continue with the rest of the program . . . man, it was like fitting together a puzzle with extra pieces - ahhhh!!!! Paige B - Wow - you were brave to even do a new program in just a week ... and to make up almost the whole program on the spot!!!But hey, in both instances you did not stop and kept going - so bravo no matter what! Skatin' - That is too cute! But hey, it worked, eh?That is the way to do it . . . end it proudly no matter what!(When are you gonna start competiting - wink?!) private_ice_publicatio... - Oh yeah, l totally agree! The thing is l get caught off guard because l do not plan on messing up - hee hee!!! tinkerbella103 - You sure made up for that lutz combo - hee hee!

At the Keystone Games competition l completely & accidentally left out half my footwork & the jump combination that followed it. My coach had always told me that no matter what goes wrong, NEVER deviate from ur program. So l kept going & at the end, of course my music kept playing & l was ending my program with a sit spin. l stayed in that sitspin for about 10 seconds waiting for my music to end. My coach was proud of me for trying to cover it up but also mad at me for skipping so much of my program!

l once reversed the entire second half of my program. In other words, jumps that should have been on the left side of the ice ended up on the right side and l finished facing the judges rather than the audience. l do not think it was noticible except to me and my coach, but it was sure confusing.

l am sure l have at some time. A little improvising never hurts. :) Have u ever come out of a spin or something & been so discombobulated that u forget what you're suppose to do next? I've done that. In ur head, you're thinking, ''I've done this more times than l care to count, & NOW l can not remember???'' Then u hope for a part in the music to get u back on track. Or do u laugh at yourself during ur program? Mess up a move & laugh, ''Oh yeah, that was grrreeeat!'' It is all u can really do -- laugh & keep going. It is the ones who fall or make an obvious mistake & then skate the rest of their program on the brink of tears that have trouble. l remember one program, l blew pretty near everything, but l was so proud that l landed a cheated double loop..that was all that mattered. The entire program was a total disaster, but l thought the loop put a nice bow on top of the mess l made. hahahaha

Well, when l was in fourth grade, l had just re did my program & was still a little confused on my footwork but l had to compete it. When l got to my footwork l totally went mind blank & started to my out footwork(keep in mind that my old program was ballet music & this was rock & roll). So l was doing all of this graceful things with rock & roll music. Haha! But, l still did very well & got 1st!!! To this day, my coach still calls me graceful rock & roll babe :].

I've done this type of thing quite a bit. One time l fell in my program & l ended up getting a little behind in my music so as l sped up & started going faster so I'd end on time l ended up getting ahead in the music. As l was doing some footwork to the center where my ending spin would be l added a few extra steps, & l looped around the the point where l was going to be ending a little bit with some more footwork, & then l finished with my spin, thankfully everything worked out, & l finished on time. I've had a few other things happen like that, but this one was the largest mistake that I've made & fixed :)

l went over to a competition over in Australia recently & id been on holiday nowhere near an ice rink- in Switzerland, when l got back l had a week to learn my new free program. l have never been that good at learning a programme. On the day of my free l had still never skated the whole programme to the music non-stop. l started skating it, l got almost 30 seconds through my programme before l forgot it. ALL. l basically had to make up my own free programme on the spot it sucked, it was awful, horrifically embarassing. Once at a competiton l had a routine where my first move was a flying camel, l fell on that- l dont just fall l fly across the ice. l got up & just stood around until l was supposed to exit where l continued onto my 2loop, well l did the loop clean & l was like WOW AWESOME yay maybe we can turn this around until l fell on the exit because l tripped over my boot. l then freaked out & it made me kinda forget my programme l just wanted to get off the ice but l didn't. Lets just say that programme continued as it began.

l do not compete but my daughter does. So her very first competition she was in - gosh, Delta l think? - & the end of her program she was supposed to do a lunge, then step up into a t-stop. But because she was nervous she kind of rushed the whole program & u could see she realized it right at the end. So she heeeeelllllld that lunge waiting for her music to catch up to her. Instead of ending halfway across the ice she went 15 or 20 feet farther & completely ran out of speed until she just sort of collapsed in a near-splits. Then she stood up & did a big ta-da with her arms. It cracked me up & almost looked planned - u know how some girls do a splits at the end? Except she can not quite do the splits so her coach would never put that in her program. It still makes me chuckle to think about it because did that big flourish at the end with a big smile on her face.

I've improvised here and there when a program went wrong. Personally, l think it is good to have a plan for what to do when you mess up an item. Your coach may not agree.
