l do ice skating and have been goin now for about five weeks and l am pretty good. Do you think it would be a little early to think about buying my own skates if so when can l buy them?

If u intend on skating continually, getting skates is great. l teach skating & l hate rental skates. If u have ur own, u can control what u do to them(like new laces or sharpening). Getting ur own pair is going to be costly though (a cheepo pair can cost a good 100$$ or over depending on ur size & what style u get)

For a first pair, try Ridels. Jacksons r a bit more high tech. l suggest making the change(if u really do not like Ridels like myself) before u start ur axel(if u decide to go that high) The book is different & much more supportive in my opinion.

Go ahead and buy a pair if you think you're going to be skating for some time to come. If you're feet are still growing, l suggest cheap skates. My friend is first pair was 50$ and it lasted a pretty long time. But l suggest you get Ridell (?) or Jackson skates. They're pretty good skates, and most of the time under or near a hundred dollars. It just depends on which kinds you buy. Good luck!

l am not sure why people r suggesting u buy a pair of skates for around a hundred + dollars?
Go pickup a pair of cheap beginner skates (you can even buy a used pair from ur local skating rink or a store like play it again sports) they will take u all the way through to the freestyle levels (in both IS l & USFSA) then if u still want to continue on to more advanced levels of skating u can be fitted for skates in the ice rink is skate shop (or they will tell u where to go) & those skates (blade & boot r sold separately) will be fine until u start competing in high level competitions & at that point u will know exactly what u need from the boot to the blade to eactly what cut u need on the blade.
