I am a tennis player and l have been trained in ballet when younger, and im interested in figure skating during the off season. l dedicate an hour to tennis everyday but could probably give up two to three hours for figure skating every week. I am very interested in the sport and want honest . I am interested in competitions but not the olympics or anything.

You can definitely start ice skating. Yes, you may not go to Worlds or anything, a lot of people cannot either, but you can surely compete in local competitions. Good luck! You should probably start off with group lessons first, and see if you like it!

you could definitely learn and compete in local competitions. it is a wonderful sport and i'm sure you will do great!! just know you wo not be going to nationals or anything, but that does not mean you can not skate.

Give it a shot! It is never to late to learn to skate. Since u have past ballet training & r already an athlete, u will probably pick it up quickly. The ballet will help u a lot. The amount of time u put into it is really up to u & what ur personal goals are.

I'd recommend getting into the basic skills program at ur local rink. The lessons r cheaper than private lessons & give u a good start on ur basics. They're also a good springboard to get into private lessons. You get to meet other skaters & coaches, whom u may approach for private lessons in the future. Since you're starting at 15, ask if they have an adult class. l started at 12 & sure did not want to skate with the ''little kids.'' l felt a lot more comfortable skating with the adults.

While the Olympics may not be a possibility, at 15 u still can be a competitive skater. The area of competition for skating is rapidly growing. For example, in the US, there r competitions for skaters who r just starting out in a basic skills program all the way up to adults, who even have their own nationals competition! There r still plenty of opportunities in skating for you. You can still do competitions, shows, test & be part of teams. Even if after u get a little more advanced, helping out teaching lessons is a great way to pay for ur own skating!

If you want to be a competitor, you will need more than 3 hours a week. l am 12 years old and l skate around 9 to 11 hours a week. l skate at 5 in the morning to 7 before school sometimes. But l also compete in Nashville, Denver, Jackson Hole, and l like in Salt Lake City Utah. Also, private coaches are great! l have 2, and one is Suzie Brasher from the World Championships in 1976.
