Hi, l have a 15 yr old daughter she already took lessons in another city when she was 10-12. She already knows basics like backwards skating and all that. Is she to old to make it far with skating??
And where should l begin as far a lessons?

Its never to late to learn a new sport l did the same thing when l was younger and you can get lessons at any ''normal'' ice rink but your daughter will have to have a bunch of lessons with younger kids to ''recap'' what she learnt when she was younger that will not take lone 5 weeks at the tops if she has one lession a week then she can move into a class with people more her age happy skating

if she wants to go to the olympics in singles its too lats but if she jus wants to do it 4 fun its not too late

l am 14 and ive just started lessons. l do not think shes too old. For lessons l would put her down as some ability so they know that she will already know the basics.
Or if she really wants to move up quick then maby think about a private coach

Go to where you will sign her up, see if you want group lessons or private. Either way they will test her he first week and see where she stands and go from there.

It is never too late to skate! She wo not go to Nationals or Olympics, but she can compete in recreational competitions if she wants!

well, yes, she cant make it very far in skating, there is very very little chance she will make it even close to the olympics. u can imagine the girls who do, skate 6-7 days a week since they were 5-6, not to mention the dedication that they have from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep. off-ice training, stretching, skating, more off-ice. they live & breath it.
the only person who started late & made it to senior level is johnny weir, he started at 12, but of-course, he is also in mens figure skating, & men can jump better from women. he also worked his butt-off from morning till night.

you can imagine how this takes a tole on ur social life too.

im 13, l figure skate 6 days a week 3-4 hours a day, do off-ice & stretching & loads of other things to make it to junior nationals this year. its extremely hard. l really miss a lot of school activities, hanging out with friends, & stuff that regular 13 year olds should do because im busy practicing.

im not saying she cant skate. she can even do competitions in lower levels. which is always fun. figure skating is so much fun. & its a great sport.

as far as lessons go..go to ur local rink & ask about group lessons. once she gets to the point where she starts jumping/spinning & has some coordination on the ice, go for practice ice. make sure she is ready because she needs to be able to manuver around other skaters. get private lessons which r usually around $30/30 min.

and have fun! she might not make it big. but there is still so much more to enjoy about skating.

just put her in some of the basic skills classes so she can relearn what she knows.it will probably help her move up faster in a year (if she works hard) she will probably have made a lot of progress!
