l started lessons today, alpha

my coach, who was a butthole, taught our group (5 of us) forward strokes, crossovers, and one foot snowplow stop, but we all caught on great and we finished within 20 minutes

but l feel so frustrated, she decided to teach us the one foot glide, even tho we already learned it, and everyone else were just gliding along

but no, im in the back on one blade, slowlyturning circles, unable to skate straight on one foot, or even hold it for 10 seconds

i was best in my class at crossovers, but l obviously have serious balance issues

how can l help myself become more...balanced?

she tried to help me, ''imagine u have a book on ur head''

....

didnt help at all

PLEASE HELP ME!
mmm no

our program at the rink is tots pre alpha, alpha, beta, delta, gamma, freestyle 1-10

im alpha

im sure

Ok well balance is like the whole part of ice skating. And all that stuff you said is not in alpha. If you are in the basic skills program. Cuz l thought alpha was basic 8. But l might be wrong. BUt what you could do is off ice.Stand on one foot until you fall. Try a bunch of times. Then switch feet. If you have your own skates, put them on at home and walk around in them so you can get used to them. That is what l did when l first started.

Balance is key do being a good skater. l suggest u stand on one foot like the other person said, but also elevate yourself on to ur toes when u do that. Practice balancing on one foot with ur eyes closed. Practice doing spirals on one foot & holding them for as long as possible. Remember that speed is important to be able to hold a one foot glide as well. As l said before practice balancing on one foot & elevating yourself to ur tip toes. Hold on to a bar or chair if u have to. Hope l helped :) If u need further help With any moves or a different explanation jus let me know. ( l know a thing or two about skating.) Bye

l had the same problem with the one foot glide (balancing :).my coach said when l do the one foot glide or anything with one foot l have to keep my arms still and hold my breath a tiny bit (weird l know) but it helped me...

Anyways Good Luck!!!!

It takes practice. It takes alot of practice to exel. Try going to one of the public skates at ur rink & practice. Was this ur first time on the ice in less than a month? If so u r not used to the ice yet, give it a couple lessons & u will be gliding perfectly. It u have ur own skates, Stand on them at home with the guards on on some sort of hardwood or hard surface. Try core exercises u can by books or core DVD is to do at home, it helped my balance ALOT. Give it time & u will get better, just remeber to visit the rink at least once a week.

There r two parts to my answer- first, if u r wearing ur own skates, have a coach take a look at them, watch u skate forward towards/away form them to make sure that u r standing in them correctly & that the blades r in the proper position. When l first started skating, l had some additional difficulty due to the fact that my R foot pronates, therefore meaning that my R blade needed to be moved slightly by a professional to get it just right.

Assuming that u do not have such a problem, the instruction that l found most helpful for a one foot glide was to glide forward at a reasonable speed on two feet, to press down the toe of ur one foot (the one u wish to glide on) in the boot (NOT pressing the toepick into the ice, just pressing ur weight a bit forward in the boot). Then lift ur other leg gently straight up from the knee until ur free foot (the one u just lifted) is toe-to-heel with ur other skate. The lifting of ur free leg should be a motion as though there were a string attached to ur knee & when u pull it up ur knee/foot follow. Many beginners first learning this skill tend to sort of push off of their skating foot into the glide, throwing off their balance. You might also think about gently tightening ur abdominal muscles when u go to do this.core strength supports ur body & u may notice a small difference.

If u continue to have difficulty, u might see if u can take a private lesson or two to get help.

You can try practicing off the ice. Like go on a balance beam in the park or something. You can even go in the edge of something hard. Or, try taking ballet. That helps me a lot! When l was in alpha, after l practiced off the ice, l passed it in like 2 lessons. Now l am in Freestyle 4. Good Luck! Hope l helped!

''our program at the rink is tots pre alpha, alpha, beta, delta, gamma, freestyle 1-10'' Wow.I've never heard of those levels, where do you live? In my club it is Snowplow Sam 1,2,&3, Basic 1-8, then Freestyle 1-6, then Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Novice, Junior, Intermediate, then Senior. l am in Pre-Preliminary :].
